With the blessing of the lovely amyofaquitaine of pick_for_me, we are bringing an all new bright and shiny Livejournal bookclub!

If you're anything like us, you'll no doubt have a mountain of books that you just never get around to reading. Well, that's where thestoryinside comes in - have someone choose your book for you!

The process is simple: join the community, and each month sign up to be partnered with a buddy, who will then choose a book from your 'to read' list. At the end of each month there will be a community post to discuss your thoughts on the book(s) you read!

However, we're putting a twist on the traditional 'pick for me' routine and each month we'll vote on what genre of book we'll be reading; now, of course this is open to personal interpretation, for example, if the genre is horror and you're not a big fan, you could go for a Goosebumps book, or even Twilight. There will be an opportunity in each voting post to ask any questions you might have.

Of course, with every community, we have to have some rules:
• You must join the community to take part, but you do not need to take part every month, so please don't feel pressured. Membership does not mean you are signed up for each month's activities, so please watch out for sign-up posts.
• You must have a 'to read' list that is public (ie. Goodreads, a Tumblr post, a LJ post, etc.) as your buddy needs to be able to pick from your list.
• Please ensure you have a few books on your list. If there are any books you can't read for whatever reasons, you'll have the opportunity in the sign up post to let us know.
• If you sign up but then realise you can't take part, please let a mod know ASAP so we can remove you from the sign-ups.
• This community is members only, but membership is open to all, so please join the community :)

If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to comment or send a PM!

How it works:
Since there are so many options, we're going to go with trial and error until we get it right! So I apologise for having to re-do this post. Vote for the genres & themes you'd be interested in reading in March. In the future I was thinking we could do one month themes, the next genre, and on and so forth. What do you think? Comments on a postcard!

As you all know, starting in March we'll be reading a chosen genre that will have been voted upon by you all.

After a lot of deliberation and input from you all, I've compiled a list of genres, sub-genres and themes for you to use as a reference if you are confused what sort of books fall under what genres.

I've tried to make it as varied as possible so that no matter the genre you should be able to find a few choices in your buddy's TBR list. A lot of themes/sub-genres fall under multiple categories. I've tried to make it as wide as possible, because I know not everyone enjoys every genre, so I wanted people to be able to find something.

If there's any books or genres you're unsure about feel free to comment or PM a mod!

In addition to this, some of you have expressed an interest in perhaps voting for a theme, rather than a genre, so we'll be including themes as well.

This is a reminder that you must pick your buddy's books by tomorrow!
I'm extending it a day since I didn't post a reminder on the 3rd.
If your buddy hasn't picked for you, please comment below.

• We'll try to match you with a different buddy each month, but of course this will depend on the number of sign-ups each month.
• You can choose up to 3 books for your buddy within the chosen genre for the month.
• Failure to pick for your buddy will result in a month-long suspension.
• You don't have to read EVERY book choosen for you - the 3 choices are just to give you a few choices.
• If you have any questions, please PM me (aweeghost) or copulates :)

ADDITIONAL: You may see some more posts pop up over the next few days - these will be general posts such as an affiliates posts (if you have an communities/sites/blogs/journals you'd like to share!) and a post with some genre help for future assignments!

It's time to sign up for February! Sign ups will close on the 1st of February and your buddy pairings will be posted on the 2nd. Please ensure you pick your buddy's books by the 5th of February.
Since this is our first month, things are still shaky and new, so please bear with us! The dates may not always be the same each month, but we'll try to keep it easy and simple!

This month's theme is: any genre.

Please sign up in the comments:

SIGN UPS ARE CLOSED!
Thank you to everyone who signed up for February!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the vote last night. The amount of attention the community has got already is overwhelming, so thank you! However, I've taken the vote down after a suggestion from a member made me rethink our genre list. So, for February, we're going to have an 'all genre' pick - meaning, when you're picking a book for your buddy, it can be any genre. The sign-up post will go up later tonight or tomorrow :)

What I want from you now, though, is to suggest genres to go on the voting list for each month, starting in March. I want to make sure everyone's tastes are included, so please, please comment with any genres you would like to see on the list!

In the mean time, please feel free to share the community - the more members, the more fun!
